Important Information Regarding Study Abroad
The deadline to submit an application to study abroad is 5 P.M., Monday, November 7, 2016. The application must be submitted to the Office of International Programs (SLTC 242) and must include: Basic student information, the approval of the student's academic adviser, a list of courses the student will take for the next two years, a short essay, two recommendation forms (one must be from a ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø professor), and a signed waiver which allows the committee to check the student's records. Coursework undertaken through study-away programs (abroad or domestic) enhances the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø environmental studies major, and is encouraged. Appropriate examples include ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø-in-Costa Rica, The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø American Southwest Program, The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, and the Semester in Environmental Science.Ìý Pre-approval by the Environmental Studies program chair is recommended.ÌýIf you have any questions regarding study away programs contact Ms.Claudia Courtway at courtway@hendrix.edu

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at University of Washington
The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program is a two summer program located in Washington State. The program's goal is to immerse students in inclusive conservation. The first summer the students will have a classroom in the field experience as they explore ecosystems across the state. The second year of the program students will be in peer groups with a faculty adviser and a conservation professional and nurture a project about a local issue from start to finish. Each summer program is eight weeks long with food, travel, and lodging payed for, in addition there is a $500 a week stipend. NOTE: If you are accepted to the program and attend the first summer YOU MUST attend the second summer, also the application requires two letters of referance.

The "International Environment and Development (IED) course focuses upon understanding key challenges, important intersections between goals of development and goals of environmental preservation, and current best practices for addressing these issues.ÌýStudents meet with an exciting array of more than 30 guest speakers each semester in DC and then travel abroad for 18 days toÌý
Costa Rica and Nicaragua in the fall and Ghana in the spring. Students create their own analyses and research, engage in service-learning projects, work collaboratively, and have opportunities to explore subjects of interest to them.
